The town was built along the banks of the San Juan river, where the fertile soil proved ideal for agriculture and cattle raising. Walking through the historical center of San Juan del Río is extremely pleasant. Despite its major industrial corridor, the city has managed to retain its provincial charm.
The town’s main handicrafts include precious stones, particularly fire opals, and basketry. The streets from the center of San Juan del Río always lead to a small square or park, which visitors are encouraged to relax along with the town’s friendly residents.
