"They are armed, they are pissed and they are not gonna take it anymore..." The Oaxaco teachers organization APPO is heading to Mexico City's zocalo! They are expected to arrive around Tuesday... armed and dangerous (metal pipes, pick axes and Molotov cocktails...), these teachers mean business. This may be the first huge step in the new PAN party leadership. Since they are backing the corrupt Oaxaca Governor - Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, whom they already offered an easy stepdown to a different political position - but he refused. So if the PAN backs him, it will have to go against the teachers and 2 million PLUS supporters that are backing the APPO - hey Calderon! Welcome to the real world of Mexican politics... you think your current jefe (El Presidente Fox) is going to take care of this for you - think again... he wants the last 2 months of his presidency to be as uneventful as possible.

Stay tuned for heavy political manuevering and possibly the Mexican Army entering the game. And yes, it is a game.... an amazing game of Mexican politics. Better than anything on TV!

"Welcome to Oaxaca..." In an attempt to try and bring tourist business back to one of Mexico's most beautiful and artsy towns, the Mexican government is saying - Forget the turmoil, forget that people are starving, being killed (shot in the back), protesting against a dirty politics Governor... forget that all schools are still closed and the battle for Mexico will not be fought in Mexico City, but here in the state of Oaxaca.

     COME TO OAXACA!!!
......... yeah, right... all I can say is befukinware!

Mexico has never been the safest country in the world, but there are alot of safer places to stay and spend your vacation dollars in Mexico at the moment than in a "war zone". The current ruling party has taken fraud and turned it into a legal win for the presidency of this country, inducing a new spin plan to the PAN-Propaganda machine. Hoping to con you into thinking they (the PAN party) are back in control, by changing their platform to... "We do care about the teachers, the miners and the millions of poor families in Mexico. (switching to the leftist party's campaign referendum) When in all reality... they just want your undivided loyality, trying to put a hush to the ramblings that this is the start of a real "Class War".

....little did I know one of my favorite punk songs from the early 80's ("Class War" by The Dils... though my favorite version was by D.O.A.) could eventually become the anthem for Mexico in 2006.......and me being here living right in the middle of it!

"A Parallel Government" ....in a parallel universe? Sounds good to me! By December 1st Mexico will have 2 presidents, one of the people (Obrador - the left) and one of big business (Calderon - the puppet)... going to be an interesting six years!

"Dueling Gritos...?" Posiblé............. the towns around us are in full patriotic mode (¡Viva Mexico!) , selling anything possible with the green, white and red color motiff. But in the zocalo in the center of Mexico City we are getting ready for a bit of history... besides Mexico's Presidente Fox giving the shout (grito) at 11pm Friday night, a tradition that does back to the Revolution. A bandstand is being errected in the square (facing President Fox's balcony) where Lopez Obrador, the man who has split this country into what is becoming a Class War - business against the poor... will also be onstage with his hoards of people packing the square who feel justice was not done in Mexico's presidential elections, but a huge political fraud was perpetrated.

When 11pm occurs it will be interesting to see who shouts louder and stronger for Mexico, the governing party or the little people that have lived this past month in makeshift camps on the streets of Mexico City in protest of the ballot results. Stay tuned..........

"No Comment on the events of today..." I personally am sick of the media's 9/11 BS, fortunately I don't get bombarded by the lame tv journalism down here in Mexico. We have more pressing problem.... ROACHES!!! We mainly have 2 kinds of cochroaches down here... one variety is the large ones that you see on tv or may have in your own neighborhood (I know that California and New York breed this variety)... the only thing is here is theylike to fly when it is a warm night! The other variety is alot smaller, about 12mm or 1/2"... these are our current invaders... they like kitchens and bathrooms mainly - fortunately we are not dealing with them in the kitchen! About 50 or more have taken over the roach motel in the baño though... yes, those RAID black plastic poison motels, these guys are using it for homebase - back and forth bewteen the hotel and inside the wall... mean little dudes.

"La Paz Hurricane Center Update..." The electricity and phones have been coming back on today, still no water, gas... hotels are still cleaning up, trying to get new glass for all of the blown out windows, no hot meals to be found, no restaurants open, just a few taco carts around town. No word on when supplies will be getting to La Paz, the roads south to Los Cabos are fine, but it is still impossible to get very far north - maybe 100 miles max. Supposedly Mulege got hit pretty bad by Hurricane John after it left La Paz. The Governor of Baja Sur has finally admitted to 5 known deaths now (there are probably gonna be a few more, not to mention the thousands of livestock buried in mud), 4 people in Paz and 1 person in Todos Santos (surfing the hurricane....).

Any new info and we'll pass it along... if you are planning to go down the Baja it might be best to wait a couple of weeks because food, gas, accommodations and just about everything else is not available at the moment. Give our amigos in Baja a chance to get back on their feet.

"Hurricane John Report from La Paz..." Been keeping in contact with amigos in Los Cabos and La Paz throughout Hurricane John. In San Jose del Cabo things were pretty good, they didn't get the huge winds just alot of rain. Haven't heard from anybody in central Cabo San Lucas yet, but I'm sure they are fine - even farther away from the hurricane than San Jose. La Paz seems to have gotten the worst of it, power is still out at 9pm tonight... mi amigo who runs Tailhunter International  just Blackberry'd me (thanks to the techno gods...) and here is his report.

Can't write much. Bberry is only communication. No water electricity or phones. Windows and walls of hotel literally blown out last night. Most trees are gone. Flooded. Been shuttling people all day to only grocery store that is still open. No toilets or showers. No food prep at my hotel so I found one lonely taco stand and I am shuttling folks there to eat. It was incredible last night as the eye went over us as trees snapped and windows shattered.

J

In the midst of all of this he is shuttling around his fishing and diving clients who were stranded in La Paz during the hurricane as well, thanks Jonathan and glad you are okay man!

"An Alcoholic Blog..." The makers of Jack Daniels - Brown-Forman Corp. (and many other popular spirits) have just purchased 2 of Mexico's favorite tequila brands and the assets of one of Mexico's tequila giants - Grupo Industrial Herradura SA de CV. A popular favorite around our casa, El Jimador and it's higher end hermano - Herradura are now part of the 'Jack' familia of high quality spirits. I guess the same way Mexican laborers come back from their jobs in the U.S. telling tales of Jack Daniels, Americans (and most of the world) are jumping on the tasty tequila wagon.

Salud!

"Conservative America Destroying The Classics..." Back in the 1960's the conservatives put pressure on the sponsors of children's cartoons (which were also favorites of alot of adults...) to remove the violence from cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, etc. Then racism became the next campaign to control and sensor what the public watches... thus removing one of Mexico's favorite toones Speedy Gonzales. Now, 40 years later the Bush conservatives are at it again, this time demanding the removal of smoking (and soon probably any images that show a drinking or drunken character), undoubtedly you have seen the news... Tom & Jerry getting censored, each animation cel painstakingly repainted to remove the offending image of a cartoon character smoking. Good old Ted Turner, the father of colorizing (some say ruining) the classics, is now set to destroy classic cartoons, which in reality is destroying classic art. Yes, he owns the rights and (supposedly) can do whatever he wants with his archive of classics. The real question is... in the era of extreme death and violence, kids growing up with no values, what is the problem with a little HARMLESS smoking between a cat and a mouse - maybe we need to see the cat kill the mouse or the mouse decapitate the cat, that might be more acceptable in this day and age.

Anyway, this is my opinion.... if you want to express yours, tell it to Ted.

"The Aztlan Takeover Plot..." The Aztlan Strategy entails the end of the United States as a sovereign, self-sufficient, independent republic - the passing away of the great American nation. "They (Mexico's Immigrants) are coming to conquer us!" so says, political analyst (dimwit) Pat Buchanan. Deep inside, most Mexican's want to return home to their families, they don't want to spend their life up in the US. The US is immigrant's (legal or illegal) best financial bet for helping their families and with the money they bring or send back to Mexico, they can hopefully live a better life. The Mexican govt. doesn't help, Lopez Obrador says he will concentrate on helping these people and not the affairs outside of the country (his opponent is the big business puppet of the govt.). While the country waits to see who will be declared the next President. The dream of Aztlan will always be in the hearts of the Mexican people, but probably the last thing on their minds is to take back land from the US - we don't even know how to use our "new" tanks yet! That is why we are parking them in front of Congress, instead of at the borders.

What we need to do is permanently shut up these ignorant (uneducated on Mexican cultural) buffoons who get the George Bush type followers to believe whatever they say, which makes for more hatred on both sides of the borders. Pat Buchanan and Pat Robertson are enemies of peace ...and intelligent people!

Aztlan is the mythical place of origin of the Aztec people. In their language (Nahuatl), the roots of Aztlan are the two words: aztatl tlan meaning "heron" and "place of," respectively. The mythical descriptions of Aztlan would make it an island. The exact physical location of Aztlan is unknown, other than it must have been located near estuaries or on the coast of northwestern Mexico. In Chicano folklore, Aztlan is often envisioned as the name for that portion of Mexico that was taken over by the United States after the Mexican-American War of 1846, on the belief that this area represents the ending point of the Aztec migrations. (at left is an Aztlan codice, which illustrates travel to the mainland from the island of Aztlan)

"We have lift-off!..." Finally after 4 months on the ground AeroCalifornia is back in the air! Well, at least 5 planes are - for the moment... but it's a start. Mi amigos in La Paz, Baja are going to start feeling better again, the fishermen, hotels, restaurants, and diving services have all been struggling to stay alive and feed their families during this mess. Of course, Alaska Airlines has just gotten permission to fly into La Paz (but not until October) - AeroCalifornia was the only real scheduled airline out of Paz, otherwise you had to go to Los Cabos and take an almost 2 hour shuttle up to Baja's capital. Congrats to our buddies at AeroMaybe and we hope the rest of your fleet gets in the skies soon.

One comment.... stop with the used parts out of the airplane graveyard already, we know it is the Mexican way to do things with cars and trucks en la Baja, but hey! When you breakdown in a truck you just pull over - in a plane, we all go down, amigos - no freakin' bueno!!!

"Finally getting some much needed rain..." This is the normal rainy season in th state of Querétaro, like clockwork... every afternoon the skies darken as the thunder rumbles and we get a little lluvia (rain) or like the past two days - alot of rain. Cleans out the green slimed and mesquito infested rio in our neighborhood, as the cobblestone road behind our casa turns into a raging river - since the entire town drains down past our place into the river below.

Makes you forget about all of the stupidity that is going on just 2 hours south in Mexico City, where Mexico's future and democracy is in full overblown action!

Should be a peaceful weekend down here......

"When the Legend becomes Fact..." Print the Legend! Mexico is getting tired of waiting for the courts to decide who our next President will be... just like the fraud in the Gore vs Bush elections in the US a few years back, .....yes there was fraud, yes there was deception and neither candidate had (has) the heuvos to make a good president. Same thing here, fraud, deception and neither candidate has what it takes to help Mexico out of it's financial hole. On one side we have a candidate that will put the country in turmoil and make the peso fall to deep depths - while the other is a stooge of "big business" (like Curly of the Three Stooges...). So this stooge will keep Mexico's economy from falling, probably won't help us out of financial trouble during his 6 year reign, but that is politics!

But the PAN is afraid that a recount could prove fatal to their victory... so August 1st they are starting a TV barrage of their own propaganda, which includes getting big business to chip in to pay alot of the expenses for commercials, the manufacturer white wristbands and ribbons to spread throughout Mexico as a sort of a solidarity - all of this just before the 7 member court decides if there will be any sort of recount and if fraud was definitely involved on August 6th. Here in our little PANcito run pueblo they removed the PAN ballots from the IFE election headquarters a couple days ago (shhhhhhhhh_____) and taked them to Mexico City. Of course, all of the PRD ballots were left behind (unguarded) and are probably now missing.... this is the way politics works here (and in most of the democratic world).

So congrats to the PANistas for pulling off a royal scam, but also for saving Mexico from plunging deeper into the depths of poverty (hopefully).

But, I could be wrong................
